Long-term follow-up of replacement compared with internal fixation for displaced femoral neck fractures: results at ten years in a randomised study of 450 patients

OE Journal. 2013;1(2):234 J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2010 Mar;92(3):406-12450 patients with Garden grade 3 or 4 displaced fractures of the femoral neck were randomized to be managed with total or hemiarthroplasty or internal fixation, to compare long-term failure and patient-reported outcome between the two groups. At the 10 year follow up, patients of the total and hemi-arthroplasty group had significantly lower failure rates, in comparison to patients who underwent internal fixation. Pain, mobility, and mortality rate were similar between the two treatment groups.
