Wear rate of highly cross-linked polyethylene in total hip arthroplasty. A randomized controlled trial
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2009 Apr;91(4):773-82100 patients with degenerative arthritis of the hip were randomized to receive total hip arthroplasty with highly cross-linked or conventional polyethylene liners to compare their wear rates. The results of this trial indicated that there was a significant reduction in the wear rate of the highly cross-linked group. It was also noted that there was a difference in wear rates between the sexes.
