New polyethylenes in total hip replacement: A prospective, comparative clinical study of two types of liner

J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2008 Feb;90(2):149-53

90 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to assess differences in aspect loosening between procedures, performed either using highly cross-linked or non-cross-linked polyethylene liners. At final follow-up of mean 66.3 months, the highly crossed-linked liners demonstrated a reduced wear rate with significantly less femoral head penetration when compared to the non-cross-linked liners.
