High-intensity electroacupuncture is superior to low-intensity electroacupuncture for knee osteoarthritis: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Three studies including 472 patients with knee osteoarthritis were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing high-intensity versus low-intensity electroacupuncture. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain intensity reduction, functional improvement (WOMAC scores), and emotional scale (ES) scores. High-intensity electroacupuncture was significantly more effective in reducing pain and improving emotional well-being, with no significant difference observed in WOMAC scores. These findings suggest that high-intensity electroacupuncture offers superior pain relief and emotional benefit for patients with knee osteoarthritis.
