Hand-held Accelerometer-Based Navigation vs. Conventional Navigation in Total Knee Arthroplasty .
Alignment accuracy and functional outcomes between hand-held navigation and conventional instruments in TKA: a randomized controlled trial
BMC Musculoskelet Disord. 2022 Nov 26;23(1):1017.Sixty patients undergoing a unilateral total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive component placement using a handheld accelerometer-based navigation device (iAssist; n=30) or conventional equipment (n=30). The outcomes of interest included alignment accuracy outcomes, functional outcomes, and quality of life outcomes. Radiographic measurements were taken at 6 weeks, and function and quality of life outcomes up to 2 years post-operation. The results of this study found no significant differences between handheld accelerometer-based navigation and conventional navigation in functional outcomes and quality of life outcomes up to 2 years follow-up. Knee alignment outcomes were similar between the two groups as well, with the exception of femoral coronal alignment degree, which was in favour of the assisted group.
