Golf habits among physicians and surgeons: observational cohort study
BMJ. 2018 Dec 10;363: k485941,692 physicians in the United States who logged golf rounds in the US Golfing Association Databse as of August 2018 were included in this observational study assessing differences in golf habits and performance across specialties. Men accounted for 89.5% of physician golfers. The specialties that played the most golf were orthopaedics (8.8%), urology (8.1%), and plastic surgery (7.1%); internal medicine and infectious disease physicians had the lowest proportion of golfers (2.9%). Physicians in thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and orthopaedic surgery were the best golfers, reporting ~15% greater golf performance than physicians from endocrinology, dermatology, and oncology.
