Evaluation of glycerol-preserved bone allografts in cervical spine fusion: a prospective, randomized controlled trial
J Neurosurg Spine. 2015 Jan;22(1):1-10.106 patients with radiculopathy or myelopathy due to neural compression scheduled for anterior cervical discectomy and fusion were randomized to receive either glycerol-preserved or freeze-dried bone allografts. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical results of glycerol-preserved and freeze-dried allografts, in terms of graft subsidence, functional outcomes, and pain. The results of this study indicated that glycerol-preserved bone allografts had similar rates of subsidence, adverse outcomes and pain when compared to the freeze-dried group.
