ARTHROPLASTY
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists are associated with improved 90-day outcomes after total hip and knee arthroplasty : a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study has been identified as potentially high impact.
OE's AI-driven High Impact metric estimates the influence a paper is likely to have by integrating signals from both the journal in which it is published and the scientific content of the article itself.
Developed using state-of-the-art natural language processing, the OE High Impact model more accurately predicts a study's future citation performance than journal impact factor alone.
This enables earlier recognition of clinically meaningful research and helps readers focus on articles most likely to shape future practice.

Bone Joint J. 2026 07-Sep;():. 10.1302/0301-620X.108B8.BJJ-2025-1486.R2Study Summary
10 studies including 96 356 patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA), many with obesity or type 2 diabetes, were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing patients receiving glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) with those not receiving these medications. Pooled outcomes included 90-day surgical complications, medical complications, readmissions, revision rates, healthcare costs, and hospital length of stay. GLP-1RA use was associated with fewer short-term surgical and medical complications and lower readmission rates, with stronger associations observed following THA. Overall, preoperative GLP-1RA treatment was associated with improved early arthroplasty outcomes, although the observational evidence did not establish a causal benefit.
