Global Postural Reeducation vs Conventional Treatment has Similar Outcomes in Ankylosing Spondylitis .
Effectiveness of Global Postural Reeducation in Ankylosing Spondylitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
J Clin Med. 2020 Aug 20;9(9):E2696.Four studies were included in this meta-analysis comparing physical therapy performed according to the global postural re-education (GPR) method, or an alternative therapy/no intervention for patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis. The outcomes of interest included the pooled outcomes of Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) scores, Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index (BASMI) scores, cervical rotation, chest expansion, finger-to-floor distance, modified Shober test, and pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The results demonstrated no significant differences in all pooled outcomes with the exception of pooled finger-to-floor distance, which was significantly in favour of the GPR group. The small number of studies included and variation in treatment protocols across studies are limitations of this research study.
