Gamified Telerehabilitation in Oligoarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Gamified Telerehabilitation in Oligoarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Randomized Controlled, Single-Blind Trial.

Int J Rheum Dis . 2025 Jul;28(7):e70342.

Forty patients with oligoarticular Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) were randomized to telerehabilitation with gamified exercises (n=20) or a structured home exercise program (n=20). The primary outcome of interest was mobility (walking speed). Secondary outcomes included lower-extremity joint ROM, pain (Wong-Baker FACES), kinesiophobia (Tampa Scale), and quality of life (PedsQL Arthritis Module). Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after 6 weeks by a blinded assessor. Overall, the results of the study revealed greater gains in walking speed and multiple hip/ankle ROMs in the telerehabilitation group, alongside within-group reductions in pain and kinesiophobia in both groups; among PedsQL strata, patients aged 13–18 years experienced greater improvement with telerehabilitation versus control. These findings suggest a short, supervised, gamified telerehabilitation program can enhance mobility and certain patient-reported outcomes beyond a standard home exercise program in oligoarticular JIA.
