A combination of scutellaria baicalensis and acacia catechu extracts for short-term symptomatic relief of joint discomfort associated with osteoarthritis of the knee
J Med Food. 2014 Jun;17(6):707-1379 patients with mild-moderate knee osteoarthritis were included in this study. Patients were randomized to treatment with either UP446 500mg/day (S. baicalensis and A. catechu compound) or control naproxen sodium 440mg/day. The purpose was to investigate the effect of UP446 500mg/day on short-term outcome in comparison to an established conservative OA treatment. Over 1 week, pain and stiffness significantly reduced in patients treated with UP446. Further long-term placebo controlled assessments are required to determine the efficacy of this supplementation.
