Paramedic-performed Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block for Femoral Fractures: A Controlled Trial

OE Journal. 2015;3(14):16 J Emerg Med. 2015 May;48(5):581-925 patients with femoral or hip fractures were randomized to receive either fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) or intravenous morphine in an emergency medical service to determine the efficacy of paramedic-performed FICB. Pain was assessed at multiple time points after treatment via a verbal numerical pain scale (VNPS) and results indicated that FICB caused a greater reduction in pain scores at various time points without increasing on-scene times or adverse event incidence.
