Use of fibrin sealant to reduce bloody drainage and hemoglobin loss after total knee arthroplasty: a brief note on a randomized prospective trial

OE Journal. 2014;2(17):11 J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2001 Oct;83-A(10):1503-553 patients undergoing unilateral primary total knee arthroplasty with cement were randomized to receive or not fibrin sealant sprayed onto the wound before tourniquet deflation and wound closure. Within 12 hours postoperatively, the amount of bloody drainage was significantly less in the fibrin sealant group. The decrease in hemoglobin levels was also significantly less in the fibrin sealant group.
