Trial to re-evaluate ultrasound in the treatment of tibial fractures (TRUST): a multicenter randomized pilot study
Trials. 2014 Jun 4;15(1):20651 patients were enrolled and randomized in this study investigating the feasibility of a full-scale RCT evaluating the effect of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on healing of tibial fractures. After intramedullary nailing of the fracture, patients were randomized to either LIPUS or placebo treatment until the fracture was determined to be radiographically healed. Based on recruitment, adherence, compliance, and follow-up rates in this trial, a full-scale RCT was deemed feasible. Currently, the definitive Trial to Re-evaluate UltraSound in the treatment of Tibial fractures (TRUST) is underway.
