Early, intensified home-based exercise after total hip replacement--a pilot study
Physiother Res Int. 2012 Dec;17(4):214-26. doi: 10.1002/pri.1523. Epub 2012 Mar 2644 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to perform either an intensified, home-based exercise programme with band resistance and step training, or to a standard rehabilitative protocol without band resistance and step training. The purpose of the pilot study was to determine the feasibility of the intensified exercise protocol for postoperative rehabilitation following THA. The results after 12 weeks indicated that the study protocol was feasible, although there were a few cases where patients found the band resistance training difficult at home.
