Feasibility and Safety of 2-Day Discharge After Fast-Track Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Chinese Experience.

258 Chinese patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty for hip fracture or dysfunction (osteoarthritis) were included in this study to determine the safety and efficacy of a fast-track program designed to limit postoperative hospital stay to 2 days. Patients were randomized to the fast-track program or standard care. The average length of stay was significantly shorter in the fast-track group (2.1 days) compared to the standard care group (5.8 days). The fast-track group also experienced a lower 30-day complication rate and a reduced estimated total blood loss. Ninety-day complication rate and readmission rate did not significantly differ between groups.
