OE Journal. 2016;4(9):12 J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2016 Jan 20;98(2):85-9260 patients with complete acute Achilles tendon ruptures were randomized to undergo surgical repair either with or without a supplemental gastrocnemius aponeurosis flap. The present report outlined the long-term outcomes of a study investigating whether the fascial flap would provide additional benefits in calf muscle strength recovery and other clinical outcomes. The findings indicated that the two groups were comparable in all clinical assessments and little recovery in muscle strength was made after 1 postoperative year. Complications were also similar between groups, with none occurring after the one year mark.
