Far-Infrared Radiation to Improve Clinical Outcomes after Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Prospective Randomized Comparative Clinical Study.

68 patients with rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive either far-infrared radiation (FIR; n=34) or control (n=34). The primary outcome of interest was pain on a Visual Analog Scale at 5 weeks, 3, and 6 months. Secondary outcomes of interest included range of motion in forward flexion and external rotation, internal rotation, American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, simple shoulder test, constant shoulder score, and tendon-to-bone healing. FIR could safely improve post-operative pain for repair patients, particularly in the early post-operative period.
