Face-To-Face Supervision + Therapeutic Exercise-Based App for Chronic Low Back Pain Management .
The Added Value of Face-to-Face Supervision to a Therapeutic Exercise-Based App in the Management of Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
Sensors (Basel) . 2024 Jan 16;24(2):567.Ninety-eight patients with chronic low back pain were randomized to receive either a therapeutic exercise-based app with face-to-face supervision (n=49) or the app alone (n=49). The primary outcome of interest was pain intensity on a Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Secondary outcomes included Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Short-Form 12 (SF-12), treatment adherence, and Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ). Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 4 and 12 weeks post-intervention. Overall, the results of the study revealed significant within-group improvements in all clinical indicators, but no significant time × group interaction for most outcomes except mental quality of life. The experimental group reported significantly greater satisfaction and adherence compared to the control group. These findings suggest that adding face-to-face supervision may enhance patient satisfaction and adherence, although it does not significantly impact pain intensity, physical quality of life, or disability.
