OE Journal. 2013;1(1):46 J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2009 Nov;91(11):2589-97.One-hundred twenty-six patients with hypertrophic long-bone nonunions were randomized to one of three groups: extracorporeal shock-wave therapy at low or high intensity, or surgery. The primary outcome was radiographic union, and the secondary outcome was clinical scores. There were no differences in radiographic outcomes. The shock-wave groups experienced significantly better clinical outcomes at 3 and 6, but not 12 and 24 months.
