Comparison of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy and Blind Steroid Injection in Patients With Coccydynia: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Am J Phys Med Rehabil . 2022 May 1;101(5):417-422.Thirty-six patients with coccydynia were randomized to receive either extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) (n=18) or corticosteroid injections (n=18). The primary outcome of this trial was to assess pain scores using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at baseline, 1 week, 1, 2, and 6 months. The secondary outcomes of this trial were to compare the quality of life using the short-form health survey (SF-36) and functional disability using the Dallas Pain Questionnaire (DPQ). The results of this trial showed significant improvements in pain scores in both treatment groups when comparing baseline to 6-month follow-up.
