80 patients with unstable distal radial fractures, planned to be fixed with an external fixator with eventual total use of 320 pins, were randomized to either titanium or stainless steel pins. Although titanium alloy pins and stainless-steel pins did not differ in the rate of pin-related complications, titanium alloy pins were associated with a significant reduction in pain levels.
