Appl Ergon . 2024 May:117:104216.Eight randomized controlled trials, including 1112 office workers with chronic neck pain, were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing various exercise interventions (e.g., strengthening, motor control) versus passive treatments or no intervention. Pooled outcomes of interest included neck pain intensity, disability, and quality of life (QoL). Meta-analyses revealed a significant reduction in neck pain intensity and disability, but no significant improvement in QoL. The main findings suggest that neck and shoulder strengthening exercises are effective in reducing neck pain intensity and disability, but further research is needed to confirm their effect on QoL.
