Prospective Single-Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Pericapsular Injection Versus Lumbar Plexus Peripheral Nerve Block for Hip Arthroscopy.
Am J Sports Med . 2020 Sep;48(11):2740-2746Sixty-four patients undergoing arthroscopic hip surgery were randomized to receive pericapsular injection (n=32) or lumbar plexus blockade (n=32) for post-operative pain control. The primary outcome of interest was pain on a numeric rating scale (NRS). Secondary outcomes included time to discharge from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), morphine equivalents received in the PACU, 10mg immediate-release oxycodone equivalents taken, patient satisfaction with pain control, and the incidence of nausea. The results revealed that none of the outcomes were statistically significantly different between the pericapsular injection and lumbar plexus blockade groups.
