Enhanced Recovery After Surgery After Total Hip Arthroplasty .

Better early outcome with enhanced recovery total hip arthroplasty (ERAS-THA) versus conventional setup in randomized clinical trial (RCT).

Two hundred patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to either an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery group (ERAS; n=100) or a conventional setup group (n=100). The primary outcome of interest was mobilization measured with the Timed Up and Go Test (TUG) in seconds. Secondary outcomes included floor count and walking distance in meters, as well as pain during rest, mobilization, and at night on a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Outcomes were assessed daily until the sixth postoperative day. Overall, the results of the study revealed significantly better mobilization outcomes in the ERAS group compared to the conventional group, particularly on early postoperative days. No significant differences in pain scores were noted. This study demonstrates that the ERAS protocol may contribute to enhanced early mobilization following total hip arthroplasty, suggesting its beneficial adoption in clinical practice.
