Enhanced care with motivational interviewing offers no benefit over usual care post-TKA .
This study has been identified as potentially high impact.
OE's AI-driven High Impact metric estimates the influence a paper is likely to have by integrating signals from both the journal in which it is published and the scientific content of the article itself.
Developed using state-of-the-art natural language processing, the OE High Impact model more accurately predicts a study's future citation performance than journal impact factor alone.
This enables earlier recognition of clinically meaningful research and helps readers focus on articles most likely to shape future practice.
Postoperative Care Navigation for Total Knee Arthroplasty Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Arthritis Care Res (Hoboken). 2016 Sep;68(9):1252-9308 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to one of two postoperative rehabilitation protocols: one group received motivational interviewing over the first 6 months after surgery as part of an enhanced management protocol in addition to usual care, whereas the second group received usual care alone, consisting of standard inpatient and outpatient physical therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine if the enhanced care protocol offered a significant benefit regarding improvement in functional outcome over the first 6 months. Results demonstrated no significant difference between groups in the improvement in Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) function scores over the first 6 months, nor in the improvement in WOMAC pain scores, ability to achieve full extension and 120 degrees flexion range of motion, or percentage of patients expressing high satisfaction with outcome.
