Enhanced recovery after surgery protocols for minimally invasive treatment of Achilles tendon rupture: Prospective single-center randomized study.

One hundred sixty patients with Achilles tendon rupture were randomized to receive either perioperative rapid rehabilitation care (n = 80) or standard nursing care (n = 80). The primary outcome of interest was the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score. Secondary outcomes included quality of life, Barthel index, patient satisfaction, incidence of complications, and adherence to rehabilitation. Outcomes were assessed preoperatively and at discharge. Overall, the results of the study revealed that patients in the rapid rehabilitation group experienced significantly better functional outcomes, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and higher satisfaction. These findings suggest that integrating a structured, nursing-led enhanced recovery protocol significantly improves postoperative recovery for patients undergoing minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair.
