Outcomes of endoscopic surgery compared with open surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome among employed patients: randomised controlled trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(12):139 BMJ. 2006 Jun 24;332(7556):1473. Epub 2006 Jun 15128 patients with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized to receive either endoscopic or open carpal tunnel release surgery. After follow-up throughout a 12 month period, it was found that the endoscopic surgery group reported a lower severity of post-operative pain in the scar or in the proximal palm than the open surgery group. There were no significant differences between the two groups for length of absence from work, functioning, and overall physical health.
