Efficacy and safety of foot orthoses for improving pain and function in patients with plantar fasciitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

8 randomized controlled trials including 391 patients with plantar fasciitis were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing foot orthoses vs control interventions. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain, foot function, 6-minute walk test performance, and adverse events. Foot orthoses significantly improved pain compared with control interventions, but no significant between-group differences were observed for foot function or walking ability. No foot orthoses–related adverse events were reported. Overall, these findings suggest that foot orthoses may be a safe treatment for pain relief in plantar fasciitis, but current evidence does not clearly support meaningful functional improvement.
