A randomized double-blind clinical trial on the treatment of knee osteoarthritis: the efficacy of polynucleotides compared to standard hyaluronian viscosupplementation

72 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to intra-articular injections of either Condrotide or hyaluronic acid. Condrotide is a gel containing a solution of polynucleotides. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of Condrotide to that of hyaluronic acid (HA), a standard injection therapy for knee osteoarthritis. Assessment of the KOOS and pain was performed at baseline, after the 2nd and 3rd injections, and at 6, 10, 18, and 26 weeks. Results demonstrated significant improvement earlier within the Condrotide group compared to improvement in the HA group and similar final follow-up outcomes.
