Study Summary

Thirty patients with chronic low back pain were randomized to receive home-based low-level laser therapy or sham therapy (control). The primary outcome of interest was change in Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scores. Secondary outcomes included Oswestry Disability Index-Korean (ODI-K), Schober’s test, and 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36). Outcomes were assessed before treatment and after 3 weeks of therapy. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both groups experienced significant reductions in pain and improvements in functional measures. Despite this, there were no significant differences between groups for any outcome. These findings suggest that home-based low-level laser therapy is safe but does not provide additional benefit over sham treatment in chronic low back pain.
