The efficacy of fibrin sealant in knee surgery: A meta-analysis

A total of 13 studies (9 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 4 prospective comparative trials) were included in this meta-analysis to determine the efficacy of fibrin sealant in knee arthroplasty patients to reduce postoperative bleeding. Pooled results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in total blood loss; however, there was a reduction in drain-out blood loss with the use of a fibrin sealant. Additionally, both low- and high-dose fibrin sealant use significantly reduced transfusion rate and transfusion units compared to a control.
