Efficacy And Safety Of Tuina (Chinese Therapeutic Massage) For Chronic Ankle Instability .
Efficacy and safety of Tuina (Chinese Therapeutic Massage) for chronic ankle instability: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
PLoS One . 2025 Jun 6;20(6):e0321771.Thirteen randomized controlled trials including 984 patients with chronic ankle instability were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing tuina (alone or in combination with other therapies) versus non-tuina treatments. Pooled outcomes of interest included clinical effective rate (CER), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Baird-Jackson Ankle Score, AOFAS Ankle Hindfoot Scale, and adverse events. Tuina significantly improved CER, reduced VAS scores, and increased both Baird-Jackson and AOFAS scores. No significant differences in adverse event rates were observed. Overall, findings suggest tuina is effective and safe for chronic ankle instability, though the low methodological quality of included trials limits confidence in these conclusions.
