Efficacy and safety of tranexamic acid in hip fracture surgery. How does dosage affect outcomes: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Injury. 2022 Feb;53(2): 294-300.A meta-analysis of 10 randomized controlled trials (n=1123) undergoing hip fracture surgery with patients randomized to receive perioperative intravenous TXA (n=557) or a control group (n=566) was performed. The primary outcome of interest was total blood loss. Secondary outcomes of interest included transfusion rates and incidence of thromboembolic events. The TXA group demonstrated significantly lower blood loss and number of blood transfusions compared to the control group. There was no difference in thromboembolic rates between the two groups. Subgroup analysis demonstrated no significant differences in outcomes between a single TXA dose and multiple TXA doses.
