Effects of kinesio taping in patients undergoing knee or hip arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
J Rehabil Med. 2025 Feb 5:57:jrm40784.Eleven randomized controlled trials including 774 patients undergoing knee or hip arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing kinesio taping plus postoperative rehabilitation vs. rehabilitation alone. Pooled outcomes of interest included postoperative pain, oedema (limb circumferences), range of motion, and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) knee score. In knee arthroplasty patients, kinesio taping significantly reduced pain and limb swelling, improved knee range of motion, and enhanced HSS scores. However, it did not significantly reduce pain in hip arthroplasty patients. These findings suggest that kinesio taping may offer clinically relevant benefits in knee arthroplasty recovery but not in hip arthroplasty.
