Gait patterns after intraarticular treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee--hyaluronan versus triamcinolone: a prospective, randomized, doubleblind, monocentric study

60 patients with knee osteoarthritis were either treated with single injection of hyaluronan (HA) or triamcinolone (TA), to compare the effects of both treatments on gait performance, muscle activity patterns, and clinical outcomes. At a follow-up of 12 weeks after the injection, the HA group demonstrated a significant reduction in pain, and both group demonstrated significant improvement in patient-reported functional measures. Gait analysis and EMG results demonstrated a few, inconsistent significant within-group changes in both groups. Between-group differences for all measures were reported to be non-significant.
