The effectiveness of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Four randomized controlled trials including 252 patients with shoulder impingement syndrome were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy versus placebo. Pooled outcomes of interest included short-term pain, short-term functional capacity, and long-term functional capacity. PEMF therapy showed statistically and clinically significant improvements in short-term pain, short-term functional capacity, and long-term functional capacity. There was no significant effect on long-term pain. These findings suggest that PEMF therapy is effective in enhancing functional outcomes and short-term pain relief in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome.
