Effectiveness of lumbar motion style acupuncture treatment on inpatients with acute low back pain: A pragmatic, randomized controlled trial.

Ninety-six patients with acute low back pain (aLBP) due to road traffic accidents were randomized to receive either integrative Korean medicine (IKM) combined with motion style acupuncture treatment (MSAT) (n=48) or IKM alone (n=48). The primary outcome was the reduction in numeric rating scale (NRS) scores for low back pain (LBP). Secondary outcomes included the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, lumbar range of motion (ROM), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), European Quality of Life–5 Dimension 5 Level (EQ-5D-5L), Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC), and adverse events. Outcomes were assessed up to 90 days. Overall, the results demonstrated that the MSAT+IKM group had significantly greater pain reduction than the control group at the primary endpoint and improved ROM. However, long-term outcomes were similar in both groups. The study suggests that MSAT provides rapid pain relief and enhances functional improvement in the early stages of treatment.
