Effectiveness of Kinesio tape in the treatment of patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Medicine (Baltimore) . 2024 Jun 7;103(23):e38438.This systematic review and meta-analysis included 14 randomized controlled trials involving patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). The study compared Kinesio taping (KT) to various control treatments, including placebo taping, exercise therapy, and other physiotherapies. Pooled outcomes of interest included short-, medium-, and long-term pain relief, knee function (Kujala score), and knee symptoms (Lysholm score). The meta-analysis revealed significant short-term pain relief in the KT group, moderate mid-term relief, and modest long-term pain relief compared to control. However, no significant improvements were noted in knee function or symptoms. The findings suggest KT effectively reduces pain but does not significantly enhance knee function or symptoms in PFPS patients.
