Fifty-six patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) were randomized to either an augmented reality (AR)-based telerehabilitation group (n=28) or a brochure-based rehabilitation group (n=28). The primary outcome was the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective knee score. Secondary outcomes included numeric pain ratings, EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) quality of life score, knee range of motion (ROM), isometric quadriceps and hamstring strength, and a single-leg hop test. Outcomes were assessed at baseline (2 weeks) and follow-ups at 6, 12, and 24 weeks postoperatively. Overall, results revealed no significant differences in IKDC scores or most secondary outcomes between groups, but the AR group demonstrated a faster recovery of quadriceps isometric strength at all follow-up points. The findings suggest that AR-based telerehabilitation is comparable to brochure-based rehabilitation in overall outcomes but may accelerate strength recovery in the affected limb.
