Effectiveness of Electromagnetic Field Therapy in Mechanical Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
J Pain Res . 2025 Mar 8:18:1131-1142.Thirty patients with mechanical low back pain were randomized to conventional physiotherapy (ultrasound, stretching, strengthening, infrared; n=15) or the same physiotherapy plus electromagnetic field therapy (n=15). The primary outcome of interest was pain (VAS); secondary outcomes included disability (ODI) and lumbar ROM (flexion, extension, right/left lateral bending). Outcomes were measured pre- and immediately post-intervention after 12 sessions over 4 weeks by an assessor blinded to allocation. Overall, the results of the study revealed statistically significant between-group differences favoring the adjunct EMF group across outcomes (e.g., pain, disability, and ROM; all p<0.05). These findings suggest that adding EMF to standard physiotherapy may augment short-term clinical improvement in mechanical low back pain.
