Effect of collagen supplementation on knee osteoarthritis: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

This meta-analysis included 11 randomized controlled trials involving 870 patients with knee osteoarthritis, comparing oral collagen supplementation to placebo. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain relief, functional improvement (WOMAC), and safety (adverse events). The analysis showed significant improvements in pain and function favoring collagen. Clinically meaningful changes were observed in pain and stiffness domains, though not all functional improvements met minimal clinically important difference thresholds. These findings suggest collagen supplementation can offer statistically and clinically relevant symptom relief for patients with knee OA.
