Int J Orthop Trauma Nurs. 2025 01-Nov:. 10.1016/j.ijotn.2025.101222Study Summary
96 patients with orthopaedic trauma undergoing surgery were randomised to receive either a nurse-led multicomponent intervention or standard care . The primary outcomes of interest were sleep quality and postoperative delirium. Secondary outcomes included length of hospital stay and 30-day mortality. Outcomes were assessed 24 hours preoperatively and at 48 and 72 hours postoperatively, with mortality evaluated at 30 days. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the intervention significantly improved total sleep quality scores and reduced hospital length of stay compared with standard care, while no statistically significant differences were observed in delirium incidence or 30-day mortality. These findings suggest that a nurse-led multicomponent perioperative intervention can enhance postoperative recovery through improved sleep quality, though its effect on delirium prevention remains uncertain.
