Immediate passive motion versus immobilization after supraspinatus tendon repair: a prospective randomized study

OE Journal. 2015;3(5):19 Orthop Traumatol Surg Res. 2012 Oct;98(6 Suppl):S131-8100 patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were randomized to one of two postoperative protocols - early passive motion or immobilization for 6 weeks. Minimum follow-up on functional outcome was scheduled for 12 months, and patients underwent a minimum 6 month follow-up on Arthro-CT to assess tendon healing. Overall, range of motion and Constant scores were better in patient who underwent early passive motion. There were no differences in tendon healing between groups; recurrence was 23.3% in the early passive motion group and 15.4% in the immobilization group.
