Effect of Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation on Pain after Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Blind Randomized Controlled Trial
J Knee Surg. 2018 Feb;31(2):189-19654 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to either active or sham transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation on postoperative days 1-5. The purpose of this study was to compare the change in pain intensity before and after TENS use during concurrent continuous passive motion device use. Results demonstrated no statistically significant differences between groups for change in pain intensity on POD1, POD2, POD3, POD4, or POD5.
