Early bisphosphonate therapy post proximal femoral fracture fixation does not impact fracture healing: a systematic review and meta-analysis

A meta-analysis of six randomized controlled trials comparing the effect of early administration of bisphosphonate therapy or control (delayed) administration of bisphosphonates on time to fracture healing was conducted. Outcomes of interest were time to fracture healing, rates of delayed union, non-union, and revision surgery. The mean time to fracture healing was shorter in patients who received early bisphosphonate therapy compared with the placebo group. No significant differences were apparent between the two groups with regard to delayed union.
