Duloxetine for Postoperative Pain Control Following Knee or Hip Replacement: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

9 randomized trials (2 from the same dataset) were included in this meta-analysis comparing duloxetine use and control (placebo, no intervention) for pain relief. The pooled outcomes of interest included pain scores at rest and during movement on a VIsual Analog Scale (VAS), and opioid consumption. Significantly lower opioid consumption at 48-72 hours. Pain scores at rest were significantly lower at 3 days, 7 days, and 6 weeks in the duloxetine group. Yet, pain scores during movement were significantly lower in the duloxetine group up to 3 months post-operation. Studies exploring optimal dosing regimens and duration are of interest, as well as comparisons to other analgesic alternatives.
