One hundred and eighty patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive a dual mobility cup (n=90) or a large femoral head (n=90). The primary outcome of interest was patient satisfaction. Secondary outcomes of interest were functional outcomes and pain evaluated with the Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Patients in the dual mobility cup group demonstrated significantly greater improvements in satisfaction compared to the control group within the first year postoperatively. At final follow-up, patient satisfaction was similar between groups. Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in the WOMAC and VAS but no differences between groups were found. Complications were similar between groups.
