Dual-Mobility Articulations in Femoral Neck Fractures: A Systematic Review of the Literature and Meta-analysis of the Outcomes

Eighteen studies, including seven comparative studies were included in a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the use of dual-mobility components (DMC) in patients undergoing arthroplasty for femoral neck fractures. The primary outcome of interest was postoperative dislocation rates. Secondary outcomes included all cause revision rates and aseptic revision rates (excluding infection and periprosthetic fracture). Among comparative studies, patients receiving DMC had significantly lower dislocation rates than patients undergoing hemiarthroplasty and conventional total hip arthroplasty. There were no differences in overall revision rates but the DMC group had lower aseptic revision rates than patients undergoing hemiarthroplasty.
