Tunnel Enlargement After Double-Bundle Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Prospective, Randomized Study
Arthroscopy. 2008 Dec;24(12):1349-57. Epub 2008 Oct 160 patients with ACL injury, undergoing ACL reconstruction with hamstring tendons, were randomized to either receive this surgery using a double-bundle technique or a single-bundle technique. The results indicated that the double-bundle technique during ACL reconstruction had less tunnel enlargement on the tibial side and no tunnel communication. However, it is important to note that the double-bundle technique was more technically demanding, expensive, and time consuming than the single-bundle technique.
